Got a miscellaneous collection of old computers, laptops, cell phones that I would like to drop off somewhere that might be able to recycle them. Finding a place is not as easy as I would've thought.
Does anyone have any info on who might take these items? Thanks in advance
Wake Co. has recycling centers that take electronics, computers, etc. You have to check what each one takes. Looks like there's one in North Raleigh that takes cell phones and computers.
There is a local business called Anything with a Plug that does pick-ups for a fee, though you can also drop things off at their site. Looks like they take "regular" recyclables as well, while you're at it.
Reusing is always better than recycling:
If the parts are working, IE: memory sticks, DVD player drives, monitors, etc. then donate them to Kramden and let them use the parts to make Frankenstein PCs for others to use.
If they are just dead parts, IE: old motherboards, broken cell phones, etc. then the three Wake County "Multi-Material
Recycling Facilities" have separated collection bins for each of those things. IE: a bin just for laptops, another just for VHS tapes, another just for DVD/CDs etc. Those are sent to specialist-recycling services.
This morning I went to 9029 Deponie Drive, Raleigh, NC 27614 and dropped off an inkjet printer, some laptops and cell phones. They took everything. I dropped off some CD's. A staff member and I were taking CD's out of cases and dropping them into a recycling/disposal box until another staff told we didn't need to remove them from the cases. But they still left me with the CD cases. Your mileage may vary.
