"Longtime WRAL News anchor David Crabtree is leaving in late May to take a leadership role at PBSNC, he announced on Tuesday. This is the second time Crabtree has announced a “retirement” from the WRAL anchor desk."

Good for him and I wish him the best at PBS NC.....going to be different without him around but change is inevitable...and man am I feeling my age remembering his predecessor Charlie Gaddy

I don't watch the news anymore but it seems like WRAL has lost many high profile people over the past few years. David will do well at PBS.

He's taking an interim position so I'm sure he'll be back.

Nobody ever really leaves WRAL. I swear they just do it for marketing at this point.

I say that partly with sarcasm, but they usually reappear as special contributors or other one off things.

There are a few more that have been there forever that also need to leave. I have been seeing many of them since I was a teenager (just a few years ago ) and fresher, younger faces are needed for the changing demographics of this city.

I never liked Crabtree so I'm pleased with his departure.

Meanwhile Greg Fishel has taken up a job as a spokesperson for a HAVC company in NC. I was surprised when I saw him on a commercial recently.

A friend of mine observed that since 1974, the primary WRAL news anchor has been either Gaddy or Crabtree. I doubt we will see that kind of stability anymore.
