I lived there that long ago and considering a move back so wondering. I lived in Leesville which was nice, but the houses had these ridiculously tiny yards. North of that there are houses with larger lots, but probably well out of my price range. Not interested in being closer to town. Have things started building out west of down? i.e. past Cary etc? It just seemed rather cramped to me then, but otherwise a great place to live.

Cary is the last town in Wake County on the northwest side. There are and have been houses in Cary with larger lots, but it is gonna cost you right now. You could check out Chatham county if you want to go even farther west.

Not much has changed around here in the last 15 years.
I'm not sure this is a serious question..but in case it is...if in it's been 15 years..Raleigh and most of the area will be unrecognizable.
Lots of development..some good..some bad..most in the eye if the beholder.
I'd recommend you come back for a visit and see for yourself.

So much has changed in 15 years.
You mention from Cary towards the west. 15 years ago, NC 540 was just opening, with no toll yet, but only to highway 55. Now 540 goes all the way around to Fuquay. The area between 55 and the lake has seen (and continues to see) a lot of development. The American Tobacco Trail used to be out in a pretty rural area, now there’s new neighborhoods all around and more coming. There’s also a lot happening on the other side of the lake (Pittsboro, Chapel Hill).
Downtown Raleigh has so much more than 15 years ago. Cary’s downtown is a thing now. The whole Triangle has expanded so much. Clayton, Fuquay, Wake Forest are all far different.

Houses have not suddenly been built on larger lots, as the price of land has gone up.

If you want something cheap and with a large lot, you’ll need to go a few dozen miles west of where you’re talking. Or Harnet County, or the far eastern side of Johnston county.

Some people are working hard to make Raleigh very similar to Manhattan but without the necessary transit.

Their goal is to increase Raleigh's "density" and they use that very word as one of their goals.

Were breweries really a big thing in 2005 like they are now? Seems to me that 2005 was maybe the beginning of them popping up across the country.

Why just the other day, one of those new fangled autos scared my horse! The carriage almost tipped over. There really should be rules against those things!
