I personally like Premier Cakes in North Raleigh. Since the pandemic, they've only been open the latter part of the week (Wed - Fri). They sell cake by the slice during the week, so you can try a bunch of varieties. I haven't had a bad slice yet. They also take special orders.
If you like carrot cake, I recently tried some carrot cake cupcakes from the Carrot Cake Lady. She's at the State Farmer Market on Saturdays. They were some of the best cupcakes I've ever had.

Both of these places look so good! Adding them to my places to try list. I feel like a trip to the Farmer's Market may be in order this weekend.
Nancy Jo’s at the State Farmers Market. Nothing fancy, just great southern pies and cakes.
Poggly, have you been to the Nancy Jo's in Oak Island/Southport? They sometimes have a table at the Sunset Beach Park market thing on Thurdays spring/summer, too.
