(For some reason, C/D won't let me put the name in the Title, saying it is a duplicate)

D&S restaurant in Cary has closed. Comments on NextDoor say the owners decided it was time to close.
We didn't eat there often, but it was the perfect thing when BH wanted the turkey w/dressing for some comfort food.

They say it's because they are retiring, but I'd bet that the buyout just caused them to retire early. At that age who wants to relocate and restart a restaurant business. Let alone find a location for something at that scale at a good rate.

Easier to just retire.

How many old-school cafeterias are still around? I've got to imagine that business model has been stretched very thin lately; too labor-intensive for not enough customization.

Yelp search turns up:
- K&W at Tower in Raleigh
- Forks in DT Wake Forest
- C&H in Northgate, Durham
- Current in north Durham

(Most other mentions of "cafeteria" are dissing restaurants, saying it tasted like school lunch)

Does K&W still exist? I really would love it if we still had a Piccadilly.

I loved going there.

K&W still exists, though they have closed a bunch of restaurants in its footprint. There is one in Burlington, right off of EXIT 143, two in Greensboro, 2 in Winston Salem, One in Concord right off of 85, and a few others scattered about. I too enjoyed Picadilly as a youngster. If I recall they were only located inside of malls.

I believe they exited bankruptcy sometime late 2021.

The K&W website says their locations are Burlington, Concord, Fayetteville, Greensboro (2), Raleigh, Roanoke, Rocky Mount, Wilmington, and Winston-Salem (2).

S&W is long gone although their building in Asheville is occupied by an S&W Market.

There is a Piccadilly in Newport News and many of them in Atlanta, but nowhere between. One Piccadilly in Mobile is still branded Morrison's for sentimental reasons (or perhaps to keep the trademark).
