Embarrassed but I developed a nasty Diet Coke habit during pandemic. My one and only vice. No other diet drinks will do… not even Diet Pepsi. Can anyone relate? Want to try a hypnotist. The stuff is just too wicked. I am not a drinker, smoker or recreational drug user. Never drank coffee or tea because I hate the taste. I had to go and find this awful stuff which should be banned IMHO. Anyone?

Sounds like you are seeking Clinical Hypnosis. Look into Lawrence Kincade. He’s off Lake Boone.

She does great work and has much success with quitting smoking and other vices (not sure she's ever tackled diet soda!) but she's really good at what she does.

I'm not sure addiction to diet soda is necessarily a vice. Perhaps just cut back a bit and drink in moderation. I personally prefer the taste of Coke Zero or the Diet Coke made with Splenda version, but I don't think that is available anymore. But I have found Harris Teeter Zero to normally be much cheaper than Coke Zero so that is what I often purchase. And I also enjoy Diet Mtn. Dew over Mtn Dew Zero. But the Food LIon and Walmart generic versions are normally cheaper. I enjot the carbonation fizz, the caffeine boost, and the artificial sugar seems less fattening.

I feel for you. I too can't seem to kick my Coke (although I drink regular) habit. I was able to give it up for quite a few months during the pandemic but then started back up again when we started to eat out again. I even dropped a lot of weight by giving up the cola (and probably just eating at home).

Right now I am trying to add in ginger ale with cranberry juice mixed in for some of my meals. I have also been trying sparkling juices. However the ones I tend to like are things like Izze which still has a lot of sugar (just not added sugars though).

Please report back if something works for you! Good Luck!

Thanks for your feedback tylersc. Although non-caloric, the artificial sweeteners are extremely unhealthy but I agree that the caffeine boost is helpful IF it comes from a less processed source. Coffees and teas (especially organic) have even been touted as having health benefits but I can’t stand the taste of either. I agree about carbonation but disagree about soda not being a vice. While not harming others, it most definitely is harming my health…if not now, in the future. That said, there are worse things for sure.

This thread reminds me of a time in my youth where I travelled thru south america (I have family there). This was oh so long ago- 35 years?

Many of the amenities in the u.s. were absent there and I didn't miss them... except diet coke, which I anguished over- it was shocking how much I needed to have it. I would go to american embassies/american express offices and call friends in the states and demand that they send a case to me pronto. Sometimes I got them, but more often than not, sticky fingers would no doubt take possession of the precious cargo.

Soon after I returned home from that particular time, I swore off diet coke and took up cheerwine which I had been introduced to in college and had never fully realized the depth, the bubbly pleasure that came from cheerwine. I became a cheerwine drinker instead, and have never looked back...

Have you tried cheerwine? Quite tasty... You too, can free yourself of diet coke, you just have to really want to...

Seriously, there's cocaine, crack cocaine, meth, heroin... we all have to make the healthiest choices we can...

But really seriously... just cut back to one can a day or every other day...

Same. I sub seltzer with lemon or lime because I like the carbonation. Cold turkey is really the only way.

This made me laugh. You definitely KNOW the feeling.

And, yes, thank goodness it’s just soda I am talking about because addiction is not something I EVER joke about. I actually worked with families of addicted people as a psychotherapist in NY. Anyway, didn’t mean to sound dramatic but I am conscious of being older now and Dad died of heart disease. Studies say you have higher risk of cardiovascular disease if you drink this stuff. I told friends to stop sending me the articles…I read them all

My husband loves Cheerwine. I never had it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Indeed twinkles. I believe that too. I rather envy those that can decrease by a certain amount of ounces or one can a day.
