We are hoping to go to our first Panther’s game in Charlotte. Are there any companies still doing package deals from here (transportation, tickets and hotel), or is easier to do everything on our own? I know that at one time, you could do a day trip on Amtrak, but I think the return leg could be close if the game ran long. If we do stay overnight, any recommendations on hotels ?
Yes, the last departure from Charlotte to Raleigh is now 7:00 pm. I can't imagine an overtime game that started at 1 pm would last that long. But it wasn't always this way. For years the last departure from Charlotte was 5:15, and that was iffy when the game ran long.
The issues with Amtrak are mostly with the long-distance trains (also helps that the state owns the railroad corridor between Raleigh and Charlotte and doesn't have to deal with the BS on freight railroad networks)
The average delay for the northbound Crescent (NOLA - NYC) train at Charlotte is 1 hour, southbound Silver Star (NYC-MIA) at Raleigh is 52 minutes, northbound Silver Star at Raleigh is 1 hour 49 minutes

It's more subtle than that. Yes, the state-owned NCRR owns the rail line Charlotte-Raleigh-Morehead City, but it's leased to Norfolk Southern for operation. NS dispatches the trains. If NCDOT and NCRR had not spend several hundred million dollars to increase speeds and capacity, the situation with the Charlotte-Raleigh trains would not be so rosy.
CSX had a bridge fire on the A line today in South Carolina I heard?
I know they cancelled the auto trains and are only running P089 and P090
from DC to New York from what I understand? I don't know if the damage
was bad enough to get some reroutes on the S Line via Selma, Raleigh, Sanford, etc?
We can only wait and see (and hope)?
