Hello everyone,

My son and his fiance are getting married in September 2023 in Chapel Hill, NC. It's going to be a small wedding (approximately 50 people) and as the mother of the groom, I need to plan a rehearsal dinner/welcome party (again for about 50 people) but I live in Florida.

Can anyone suggest a nice intimate venue (maybe something a little funky) that won't break the bank?

Thank you!

The Weddingwire has many suggestion. The only one I have been to is Mez, Contemporary Mexican. La Residence also sounds good, and it is a French restaurant.
Others may have better suggestions.

Don't know where in CH the venue is near...but Squids off Fordham in Chapel Hill is a solid option if you/the wedding party like seafood. I was in a wedding party where rehearsal dinner was at Squids several years ago (wedding itself was at The Carolina Inn) and it was delicious and was "elevated" but not "high-end". Delicious food and nice semi-formal atmosphere. Had been there for a few work functions before and after that as well.

I thought I heard they closed a couple years ago. Their web site looks active, so I am obviously mistaken.

So true. You might want to avoid planning anything in a college town during Fall on weekends of a home game.

Is the plan to stumble up to Franklin street after the dinner for drinks/partying/etc.? If so, you should look at places in Chapel Hill. Mez is located in RTP, a 20 minute drive from CH. If your party was smaller, I would recommend the Carolina Inn (had my rehearsal dinner there 20+ years ago) but on their website, it only mentions accommodating groups of 25.

If the wedding is already scheduled on a football weekend, you might want a venue outside of town.

The Siena Hotel in Chapel Hill has Il Palio (incredible Italian restaurant) and they do have private parties. Honestly not cheap, but memorable so worth the price. You can search Il Palio or the Siena and see the menu online (but might be able to negotiate something too with them). I'd post the link but I'm not sure I can.
