I remember when my friend got married in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia in the mid-1990s, he wore a morning suit because the powers that be told him that a black tux is not appropriate before 6 PM. Who knew?

Off subject, Something About Mary was the worst movie ever.

If you don't have a black suit and don't want to buy one I would probably just go with the rental from men's wearhouse. And not worry about it too much from there.
Oh, I'm so not a Something about Mary fan either.
But, for Northern Family, I plan to try the "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" route. No, it is not in Rome, either. It will be painless, and something different for me.

Married in black slacks and a white dinner jacket. It seems to have captivated the bride, as she has stuck with me.

Going to Florida for a wedding reception at end of February. I will get by with a sport jacket.
Smart kids.
Going to the courthouse, where they will hitch in front of a magistrate, limited to two or three witnesses, no stress and saved enough money for a real nice trip to Paris.
Good for them.

Yes, that's the convention. Also, down south a white tux jacket (with black tie and black pants) has been traditionally approved between Memorial Day and Labor Day as an alternative to black tie in the evening. There is no counterpart for white tie with a white jacket, however. Just sweat.

Likewise, seersucker is traditionally approved for any daytime outdoor event in the south during summer as an alternative to a black suit. I wear seersucker in summer occasionally when I'm not with my beloved Yankee wife, who despises seersucker.
