A friend and I need a night of good food and strong cocktails tonight. Preferably downtown Raleigh, North Hills, or maybe downtown Durham but open to other areas of each city as well as Cary. Where should we go? Nothing crazy crazy expensive, but we'd be good for up to $30-$35 a plate.

If you've never been to Stanbury and you're possibly ok with waiting for a table (or going early around 5), that's the best place to eat in Raleigh right now

The Stanbury is definitely better than Chilis.

I like Poole's Diner too, but it can get crowded and loud. The mac 'n cheese is so hyooge, you better wear your buffet pants...lol. I really miss that Brazilian Steakhouse that was in N. Raleigh (Churrascaria?). You have to recline the car seat extra to drive home if you didn't enter a meat coma. The Brazilian Rum drink they served there was flammable.
