Med Deli in Chapel Hill has burned down. Huge loss. Amazing food and even more amazing owner, Jamil who has helped out the community in countless ways. I know folks who are already planning fundraisers so keep your ears and eyes open for those. https://www.wral.com/story/fire-crew...hill/20967557/

I noticed smoke in the area and saw the trucks from a distance but didn't want to become a gawker so I avoided the scene to learn more. Sad to hear about this and hope they can and will rebuild soon.

So sad - I LOVED this place. Even during covid we would order "to-go" and eat it in the car.

There is an article in today's N&O...
https://www.newsobserver.com/news/lo...277594268.html

"Mediterranean Deli will be back, owner Jamil Kadoura says, after a weekend fire that gutted the popular restaurant and market."

"We just have to be a family and stay strong,” Kadoura said Monday before meeting with employees in the former Elaine’s restaurant building at 454 W. Franklin St. He plans to reopen Med Deli’s catering business in that building, which he also owns, he said, but the kitchen is too small to also serve dine-in customers.
