I have no tears for this perp. He played with fire one too many times and finally got burned.
Castle doctrine and stand your ground are good things. Can they be abused? Yes, but anything can be abused. People have a right to go about their business and sometimes that involves protecting themselves. Someone would have to show me a tall stack of proof for me to think she did anything wrong.
The reality is that Lamb WOULD NOT have been a victim of gun violence that day if he hadn't put himself into a situation that resulted in the intended victim defending themselves.
At the very least, they link to the stories on WRAL. But the page itself makes it sound like HE was the victim.
1. I would think most everyone would rather not kill someone if they didn't have to. It will absolutely leave a scar on the soul of the person who had to make that choice.
2. It is true, when thinking your life is on the line, self preservation is the most primal instinct in humans, although many do shrink or freeze when in highly stressful conditions.
3. I am a licensed conceal carry owner. I hope to never pull the trigger for anything more than controlled practice for the rest of my life, as my family and I enjoy this activity.
4. But if my family or my own life is threatened, I will not hesitate. I know I will have to deal with the fact that I took another life, but it will only be because someone forced me to make that choice.
Again, as the original poster stated... just my thoughts.
The ONLY thing that made me hesitate was the point that the door was locked. But then I realized before it was pointed out that he could have broken the window and attacked this woman. So no problem with the shooting, after I read about his violent history against women I am firmly in the Good Riddance camp. F this guy, we are all better off without him.
In my youth my dad was told that a burglar had to have actually gotten inside our house before my dad could slug him. Trying to breach that backdoor didn’t count. Dad was told “pull the guy inside before you beat him up”.

So maybe that philosophy is intruding here.
That was my understanding too. However here in Maryland, which has really tough gun laws, there was a local story here a few years ago when a guy visiting a friend who had just moved here. He got drunk and went for a walk, when he returned to what he thought was his friend's house he found the door locked. He pounded on the door and screamed F bombs, thinking his friend was messing with him. The homeowner, after repeated warnings, shot through the door and killed the man. No charges, as it should have been IMO.
