Help a grandma out

My grandson's "Flat Stanley" will be visiting me soon and I need to take him on a few adventures. Hit me with some of your best spots to see within 1-2 hours of Raleigh.

I'm not as adventurous as I used to be, and can't stand long drives nowadays, so I only have a few thoughts so far. They are the Andrew Johnson home, a Civil War Battlefield that has an actual cannon etc (please name a good one close by), possibly Stagville (may not be age appropriate though but I will ask my son) and that's about it.

I may also send him down to the Charlotte area if my daughter's work schedule allows for some adventures. So if you have any ideas for that area, that would be great too. Unfortunately Flat Stanley was a little too late for a visit to the NASCAR Hall of Fame as my daughter was just there for a work meeting. So I doubt she will want to go back there.

Thanks in advance!

How old is your grandson? That way we can make age appropriate suggestions.

The Carousel in Pullen Park? Put him on an exotic animal or a fancy horse. It is a classic Dentzel Carousel.

Flat Stanley was like a 5 year old/kindergarten type project.

Since Stanley is flat, how about Occoneechee Mountain in Hillsborough -- tallest spot in the area. https://www.ncparks.gov/state-parks/...e-natural-area
