Epic Games Inc. is laying off about 900 employees or 16% of its workforce, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The job cuts were announced in a memo to staff, said the person, who asked not to be named disclosing information that’s not yet public.

I guess they won't be needing that "Global Headquarters" at Cary Towne Center after all...

Nope, and it's been almost three wasted years since they snapped it up and put forward their absurd non-starter proposal before going dead silent, and now who knows how long it's going to languish.

Frustrating given the far superior mixed-use plans that were in motion for the site before Epic got involved.

Such a vastly superior site than The Fenton.

What a waste at this point.

Says that they're "maintaining net-zero [headcount] at our new size," so it's unlikely any new office space is foreseen.

If 830 cuts is 16%, then they had around 5,000 employees, which is a significant increase since they first started pursuing the new HQ plan, but I don't know how many of those are located in Cary and how badly they needed more space before these cuts.

Like I know they were pretty much bursting at the seams at their existing campus, but did they ever start leasing additional building or something to tide them over until the new campus?

Regardless, no, I don't see any way they will pursue a new HQ in the foreseeable future, from either a headcount or a financial standpoint.

I with the ToC would tell them to clean up the site or they will be fined for a public eyesore. Of course, they have a long reputation of let-it-be. Is the guy with the flags, etc still on High House ?

Ikea.... full circle. C'mon. Can't go wrong with ligonberries, salmon, meatballs, and furniture that offers decent quality and aesthetics at an affordable price i.e. "value". My kids are still using their $120 Ikea "youth beds"....6 years later.
