Anybody on this board work in the Environmental field on either the state / federal / or private industry level? I am "testing the waters" and exploring new employment opportunities in this field of work after working as an Environmental Specialist dealing with water quality issues for the state of NC for the past three years. I had hoped my current position would be a good fit for the long haul, but after much consideration I have come to the conclusion that my current job does not have me on path to meet my long term career goals.
Just thought I would reach out to any people in my field on this forum and see if anyone had tips on resources for hunting for jobs in the environmental field in the Triangle. I have been networking with my work contacts and have been scouring the usual suspects like career builder and monster as well as Craig’s list but was wondering if there are there any other local sources I should check out?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks!

NRG, just out of curiosity, are you a limnologist?
While I lack the advanced degrees that would qualify me as a limnologist that is pretty close to what I do. I deal with policy / regularoty / research issues concerning major rivers and estuaries in NC. I deal primarily with concerns related to vegetated riparian buffers, stormwater runoff, municipal wastewater treatment plants, and environmental issues related to Agriculture practices.
In a previous years I worked as a consultant dealing with more industrial type environmental issues (groundwater contamination / EPA Superfund type remediation sites). I am am sort of a Jack of all trades when it comes to environmental issues!
Moderator cut: removed My thanks to the poster from NC State that gave me some tips. I will follow-up on that. I have also already received some very useful DM's from city data members!
Keep the tips coming. I truly appreciate any and all input!
Thanks!

If you want to look at places directly, the duke natural history society has a pretty comprehensive list of area environmental groups at the bottom of their homepage. Duke Natural History Society
Thank you for the tips and Direct Messages everyone. I don't know how long my search for my next job will last, but it is great to identify all these great job sources on the front end of my search. I appreciate any and all feedback!
Hi, North Raleigh Guy. I do not live in the triangle (yet), but I have spent boatloads of time there in my 36 years working for the Environmental Protection Agency. EPA has a wonderful facility in RTP that houses hundreds of scientists in nearly every discipline. The agency's National Health and Ecological Research Laboratory and National Exposure research Laboratory are headquartered there, along with divisions of the National Center for Environmental Assessment, the National Risk Management Research Laboratory, teh National Center fro Computational Toxicology, and other divisions.
In addition to EPA there is also the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences (part of the National Institutes of Health), as well as tons of contractors that provide support to both agencies.
You must be in air or toxicology. Otherwise, I've found the EPA in RTP to be fairly devoid of opportunities to those of us in more aquatic fields...like hydrology. Believe me, I've looked there many times.
