After reading everyone's opinions I'm even more intrigued. Husband is looking for transfer out of Massachusetts to Triangle area. Planned trip in September to scope out the area, somewhat familiar with Chapel Hill and Wake Forest after visiting on college tours for my daughters.
It seems pretty nice, similar to New England Boston suburbs, thought it might be a nice area to settle, but this blog has got me even more curious about how well received the Northerners may be, and if I do choose to settle in a planned community to avoid insane amounts of time on yard maintenance (like I do now) will I be unjustly judged?!
Any suggestions on quiet "Wisteria Lane" type developments that will not cost a fortune? My parents are following with us......so a diverse neighborhood supporting 40 somethings and 60 somethings would be great.....Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, Morrisville, Fuquay Varina etc.....all opinions welcome!

Don't sweat the forum. We are a handful of people, some who don't even live in North Carolina.
You would not have any issues with reception or judgement.

^^ What he said!

This forum is fun, and sometimes very helpful, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over the opinions posted here. You will be just fine. Good luck with your search and enjoy exploring this area when you come to town.
