Default Cary, NC 5th fastest in growth...

Me and my husband are thinking of relocating ... possibly to NC in this area, Raleigh, originally. I hadn't heard of all these little places around Raleigh until I came to this forum. We live in Albuquerque, NM. New Mexico is a whole different kind of beautiful than NC...from what I can tell.

We just started weighing aspects of where to live that are important to us...and Raleigh came up for many reasons. The search began when I realized and accepted the fact that New Mexico just does not have the type of work I really want to do. I am a clinical social worker interested in working in a intensive treatment environment for people who have mental illness plus substance abuse issues.

Thank you for that link...where to move is becoming more clear to us, albeit I still have a lot of research to do.

The main mental facility in Raleigh, Dorothea Dix Hospital, is currently moving into a new facility in Butner.

"Suburban charm" is an oxymoron.

I love suburbs with a ton to offer like Cary. It has everything I need or want. I absolutely despise city living, although I am sure it is great for others.

I can definitely see how that would be for some people. There are benefits to both and it depends on what each person likes. If you have the opportunity to live where you dream to, then appreciate each and every minute of it. If I was to do downtown living, I would pick a luxury condo. Who knows, maybe someday I will want to experience that, but probably not.

My cousin was quoted in that article!

I think there can be suburban charm... as far as bedroom communities go, I think Cary is really nice! AND we have 2 amphitheaters a bunch of movie theaters... it's clean, and landscaped well with lots of great parks and outdoor activities. IMHO, I think that gives it charm! The bedroom community we were looking at in California lacked all this good stuff... and it was 40 minutes from anything. There are rows of houses in some communities that lack interest, but there are other subdivisions that are adorable, whimsical and yes... charming.

If you are 20 something, single and childless, then yes, Cary is going to be a snore-fest. But, if you are getting closer to being middle-aged and don't need excitement all the time, or excitement to you is going to Goodberry on a friday night... then the 'burbs are the place for you, and why not be somewhere that is this popular and safe
