Hi all... just discovered this forum and am so hopeful I can get some good info. I am a soon to be divorced mother of 2 young children and am looking to relocate. I am in Nashville now (ugh) but previously lived in Winston-Salem and loved the quaint feel and small town charm for 7 years. I miss North Carolina, I think it is a great state to raise kids (I am a native Floridian, and while that is a fun state, not always a wholesome choice for families). I don't want to go back to Winston because of personal reasons of the divorce, but do want NC. I feel like Raleigh shares a lot of the same qualities, just not as small, and a little more foward thinking.
Can anyone point me into some good areas of town that have a strong sense of community? I am looking in the 400- 500k range and good schools are a must. I really would like to know what people know or have heard of the Bedford Falls development.
Thank you so much- this is a hard move and I am grasping at straws here.
Just Stay Away From The East Side Alittle Rough. The Rest Great!!! Am Curently Living On The N Side And Love It. Great Place For You To Raise Kids. Most Areas In Raliegh Are Good, East Side Alittle More Happenings Then Most. Take Care And Good Luck
Bedford is nice, we walk through there all the time. We were interested in Bedford, but chose Oakcroft, right next to Bedford. It just had a good neighborhood feel to it. We are very happy with the choice. Lots of kids in the neighborhood. Also, Falls Point, Falls River are nice.
I live right next to Bedford and think it a great community. DO a search on this forum and you will see several discussions on Bedford that may be able to help answer any question you have. With your price range you will have planty of options in Raleigh. I think it will all depend on where you plan to work, what size house, and how much land you want that will be the biggest facotrs in determining where the best place is to live.
Bedford is a great starting point, with walkable parks, close to great shopping, great schools... there's even a farmer's market! However, as Mike mentioned, at that price point, you'll have many options with similar amenities!
Good luck - this sounds like a hard transition for you, but hopefully you and your kids will settle in here quickly.
