Hello Everyone!

Hoping that someone out there could give me some info on the Riverwood Athletic Club. I don't live in any of the communities that allow me use of this, so I would have to be paying their membership fees. I have checked out the website, but I was hoping to get some first hand knowledge. Are the membership fees worth it? Are the pool / gym crowded? Are the folks nice? I am looking for a place to get some exercise and a place to meet some people, since I am new to Clayton and know no one!

Thanks everyone for your help in advance!

I've been a member since day one. For the money, the membership can't be beat. The outdoor pool tends to be crowded for the first week of summer but aside from that, it's not a hastle. The gym and the people that work there are nice. My only complaint is the tiny locker rooms. It can get kind of crowded in the morning before work. If your not really into golf, I'd suggest the bronze membership which limits the times you can play for free.

I'm not sure if this is correct or not, but I heard that if you join at Lions gate and get the access to Riverwood as well, its cheaper. Check out the fees at Lions gate first, the rumor could be true.

I will check that out, thanks ferrickhead!

Does anyone know if they have a day pass you can buy to try it out, or something else to that effect? I would like to try before I buy, a test drive of sorts!

Thanks!

I think the cost is the same no matter which facility you choose to join through. The difference is whether you are a resident. I think Lionsgate may have extended residency to a couple of the neighborhoods abutting the area but not sure if they are still doing that. You could ask the manager about a day trial. When we were joining, someone else asked about it and the manager told them no. They may have speicals on the joining fee so be sure to ask. We are members- we use the lionsgate pool and workout room, and golf after 3 on weekends at Riverwood. You do have to pay for cart fees- I think it is $10 for 9 holes. Pools are crowded on some of the weekends but we only go later in the afternoon and people start leaving. I think it is well worth the money.

You can purchase a guest pass for $8. If you tell them your interested in joining, they may give you a few for free. At least they should.

As far as ferrickhead's comment, being a member at Riverwood AC gives you reciprocal membership at Lionsgate in Clayton, Tralee in Wilsons Mills, and Mingo Creek in Knightdale. The athletic club in Mingo Creek is useless 9small with limited hours of operation). The other ones are very nice.
