Yes, I finally saw my first snake since our move to NC last September. (Hubby has seen a few on his runs on the trails.) I was cutting grass yesterday evening, and something wiggling caught my eye. At first I thought it was a long earthworm until I really looked at it: a baby snake! Hubby asked if I killed it -- no, I let him slither away... I guess our recent rains bring them out...

Do you know what kind it was? If its not venomous than slithering away is a good exit. If it was venomous your lawn mower would have been a good way to tell!

That's exciting! I love snakes. But you rarely spot them in the wild - I can count the number of snakes I've encountered. I was at Lake Crabtree one day walking during lunch, and came on a huge black snake sunning on the side of the trail. He was about 10 feet long! (ok, maybe 6 feet) I called hubby I was so thrilled

Could have been a worm snake - they look alot like a worm only somewhat larger and they have that tongue action going on. I see them all the time.

Hmmm, why not? If dangerous it could bite someone.

Ya'll go easy on Jamerican. He's still relatively new here. I don't know that he has lived through all those CD debates about if and when you should kill a snake. He seems like a nice guy so I have to throw in my "take it easy on him".

BTW, I'm too chicken to kill a snake... don't want to be that close.
