What, no Verizon FIOS? What about Cablevision/Optimum Online/IO Digital Cable? I thought you guys were getting FIOS soon. I've had great service with both of the above.

No, there must be something wrong with his specific receivers or satellite. They went from mpeg2 to mpeg4 HD and the picture is better than ever. DIRECTV has plenty of bandwidth and will keep on filling it up with more HD content. Here's a good link about Satellite TV and bandwidth here

Another lucky one here: 3 uneventful years with TWC.
We pay $113 for cable and internet.

I appreciate that. I'm really fed up with Time Warner. The new DVR software they use is 10x worse the the Pioneer software they previously used. They haven't added HD channels in a while - which is pathetic given the number of channels satellite has, and you can't get the football package. Not to mention that I fully agree with everyone who has complained about the service, which is horrible. The only thing to their credit is that they have always been on time for a home service call.

The big problem is that basic cable is included in my rent, and they won't take it out of my bill, nor can I apply it to internet, which I'd like to keep with them. Even with that, I'm still thinking of switching, but I hear all the stories from people who have issues with DirectTV, and I have doubts. It's good to have all of this input.

Thumbs down Twc

We rant about Time Warner Cable all the time. In my opinion they have absolutely the worst customer service of anyplace anywhere. All I have to do is mention them and I can see my DH's blood pressure rising.

Default The problem is no competition

We live in Arlington, Va but moving to Chapel Hill soon. The stories of anguish remind me of when Comcast had a monopoly here. A couple of years ago, Verizon FIOS came in (God bless our County Board). WHOAAA! Did Comcast ever change the quality of its service! Everything got better all of the sudden. Of course, meny people switched to FIOS and they are much happier than they were with Comcast.

So the answer to this crappy TWC service is to lobby your city and county government to let other companies into your area. Believe me that is the only way that TWC will change it ways.

I will no doubt become one of the lobbists as I will be stuck with TWC in Chapel Hill! BTW, I was able to get some reasonable efforts out of Comcast when I filed complaints with the county. Then, I got the cell phone number of the Comcast district manager, and then things got much better for a while in the before FIOS days.

I lived in Seattle for 22 years, my phone line never once went down! Not once, not ever! Storms, earthquakes, snow, sleet, rain, wind, it always worked. My phone has been out at least 16 times in 4 weeks here, with TWC! I'm sorry, there is something majorly messed up with this company. And to think they have me locked into a contract for 2 years?

Was on hold for 46 minutes today and when I finally got a rep, she did not like my "tone" and hung up on me! It's horrific, I want out.

I'm in Cameron Village and get dropped calls *All The Time.* If I want to talk at all, I have to go sit over by the window. I'll be in a different part of town next month, so maybe it'll be better. Glad to hear it's good downtown.

I suppose you've never dealt with Qwest. I have stories that'd make your hair curl.

Alas, somewhere to vent about TM's overpriced service! So I move into my complex April 2008 and arrange to have all channels, high-speed internet, and digital phone service. As a former Comcast customer, my expectations were marginal at best. At first there was a small problem: My caller-Id on TV didn't work, which they fixed remotely. Fast Forward to 09/01/2008..My digital channels freeze constantly. Troubleshooting over the phone doesn't work, they bring another box 09/07/2008. Channels work fine, Caller Id on TV fine. 09/08/2008 I go to my DVR feature to watch a scheduled recording..DVR function is fried. If I could fly, I would have went through the roof, I was beyond agitated. So they brought a new one today 09/12/2008..but I just had to reset the box as I was browsing this forum and watching a digital channel. Stay tuned.
