If it was a scam, it probably backfired big time. Since the rise in gas, foot traffic into the stations for non-gas purchases were already down. With the recent run on gas stations, the non-gas sales in many stations are in a sharp decline. (As told to me by vendors stocking the stations.) Since the run is over (hopefully) and everyone has a full tank, not many people are going to be grabbing that Coke and snack on an impulse for a while. Those small purchases can really add up and make or break a C-store.

IMOP, the reduced gas availability was blown totally out of proportion by the media. Thus we had a shortage of our own design. There were things that could have calmed it a bit. A friend told me that in her town the police wouldn't allow the lines to enter the street and impede traffic. The stations were told to contain it to the parking lot or shut down the pumps. Many people gave up the search and merely went home. Given that was a smaller town, but I see near misses on a routine basis on Capital Blvd as people line up to fill their tanks at the Hess station.

Just drove up to Southern VA yesterday and got just enough here (I was on empty) before leaving so that I could fill my tank up with $2.99 gas in Clarksville, VA. The last gas station in NC off of Rt. 15 was $3.65, the first gas station in VA was $2.99.

The end may be near for high gas prices. Oil may drop to between $20.00 & $40.00 a barrel. That could translate to under $2.00 per gallon for gas. Time to start buying SUV's again.

It's hard to convince North Carolinians that offshore drilling is a good idea if gas drops below $3 per gallon.

Thought gas would be cheaper in NC than in Minnesota. A few days ago ours went down to $2.39. But maybe it's because you're still having a shortage?

We're just getting out of a shortage, plus, I believe your taxes on gas are substantially lower.

Gas was $3.09 and $3.13 at the two stations off I-85 at exit 150 near Mebane. That was the cheapest we saw between Raleigh and Concord, NC today. Back in Youngsville it was as high as $3.69.
