For those of you who are new to the state or even natives: the fair is pulling off something new this year. First of all, they are having a "preview day" on Thursday the 16th. They've actually done this in the past, but it was special tickets only. This year it is open to the public.
Also, on Thursday (preview day) they will be selling $25.00 all you can ride wristbands from 4- midnight.
This is a GREAT DEAL considering that gate ticket prices are $1.00 per ticket and rides usually cost a minimum of 4-5 tickets per ride. So $25.00 would get you minimum of 4 adult rides on normal ticket priced nights.
DH and I are looking forward to this - will be our first. We can only go on the weekend, like many others. How crowded will be be? How's parking? What's the best time to go on a Sat or Sun?
Lamishira, I would say that is 'FAIR'! The Fair is great, yes the crowds are large especially on he weekends but that's what makes it so out'STANDING'ly FAIR! The one FAIR intersection near the grandstand and heading up near the arena is always so packed like a subway car in Tokyo!
I also agree with saturnfan that the bus is the way to go. Well, well, deeply well worth the ticket!
As far as Preview Day; well Guinea pig comes to mind! Trying out the rides ahead of time.....that seems like riding a bull with a saddle! The outcome is usually the same as with riding one without the saddle! Yeee-Hawwww!!!
All cattle prodding aside the FAIR is great FUN for everyone!!!!! Can't wait!
Candy Apples, Popcorn, funnel cakes, fried Sneaker bars, fried Milky Way bars, Fried fried batter bars even! The FAIR is one of those great places where a stranger can guess your weight/height/age for a $1 and fail and you wind up with a 50 cent prize! How cool is that!!!! Kind of like todays stock market, but a share for a $1 and get 50 cent back! WOW!
We go when it opens and stay until we can't stand the crowds any longer. By mid-day it is packed. Only downside is you don't see the fireworks or experience the fair at night.
We're coming to Raleigh next week and going Sunday! I'm gonna buy ride tix online and save some dough. We can't wait! I'm glad it stays open so late-we'll probably go later and stay later.
Last year was our first NC state fair and what a fun day and what great food . .. deep fried Twinkies, peach cobbler with ice cream, and the best BBQ ever at the offical NC both for the beef association (can't recall official name) where I had the yummiest pork sandwich. Oh, can't forget the corn on the cob and always love the animals. Last year ther was a mom pig and her 20 plus babies. Enjoy everyone!
Oh, did I menion the homemade apple cider? I'm sure I've forgotten something but it is all good.
The bus service is great too. Well worth $4 round trip.
Can you please expand upon this? Looking to park somewhere aways away and take a bus in if that's possible - but we've got a 3 yo and will probably want to bring a stroller, not sure if that would work with a bus...probably not.
We moved here just as the fair was ending last year and didn't go. I'm from Ohio, and we had the largets State fair in the US, so I'm anxious to see how this compares.
