Hi everyone, I am planning a wedding on a budget and I need a very modest place to have my reception. The wedding is at the Rose Garden in Raleigh near NCSU so I don't want to go too far from there (lots of out of town guests). My fiance and I are inviting about 125 guests so it will be 125 or less who attend the reception. Following are requirement/preferences:

-Indoors with a/c (June is too hot to be outside in a big dress)
-Allowed to bring food prepared by a family member
-Just a few tables for people to snack or take a rest, no sit down dinner
-Room for dancing!
-Allowed to serve wine and beer
-$500 or less for 4-8 timeslot!

Places that say they cost 500 actually have additional charges; for example, a 1.50 fee per person if food will be served, a $30/hour security guard fee per 50 guests, a table fee which you cannot waive...

If anyone has any ideas PLEASE help! I really appreciate it. I know clubhouses in subdivisions will be good but I don't know anyone who lives in any places with clubhouses.

Thanks

mamaof2 - Caffe Luna is a nice restaurant, but I'm not sure they let you bring your own food!

The NC Museum of Art & The NC History Museum (and probably some others) have facility rentals.
Depending on the size of your group and what you want they can rent you a gallery, space, etc. Obviously it would be after hours (5pm or thereabouts).
Check their websites- they do have some specifics (like any facility will) about approved caterers, etc.
Size of the space/gallery depends on the price. Looks like $250 and up.

Also....
I'd check the city of Raleigh website. They have a couple of things (historic homes, community centers) that are available to rent. Again you would have to check with them on alcohol/caterer limitations.

I'm going to let them eat! I just don't want to waste time sitting around eating formally; I'd rather be mingling and dancing rather than using an hour of time with my loved ones eating!

Have you been to The Knot message boards? That's how I did all my wedding planning. The people on there know all of the possible venues in Raleigh.

Red face Helo for frugal weddings

I have been really looking around, unhappy because everyone wants to charge $1200 for a ROOM, nothing else for receptions in Raleigh and Wake Forest as well!! I found 2 possible cheap places today: Wake Forest Community House is $250 for a 12 hour usage and Campbell Lodge at Durant Park is $110 per hour, after 6 pm uses. Both are kinda rustic, but at night could be really lit up and dressed up, I think! You can google both of these places. Good luck! I am trying to cut costs as well! Anyone know a good cheap caterer in same area?

We had our wedding and reception at the Borden Building near downtown Raleigh. It's beautful and quaint. They did allow outside food, they have a kitchen, they had tables and they allowed beer and WHITE WINE only and they also did not allow live bands (I think the rule was no amplified music). It was around $500.00 for 8 hours, but that was also 10 years ago, so I don't know what it is now.
