We are moving to the Cary area from the Mid west and will be needing to purchase some furniture (dining table, couch, end tables, spare bedroom furniture, etc). We are not wanting the cheap stuff but mid-level to potentially higher end furniture. With all the furniture made in NC, was thinking there would be more "outlet" or big furniture stores in the area. I know when we have ordered coffee tables, china cabinet, headboards, chest of drawers, etc in the past they came from NC. Does anyone have any recommendations

Most furniture is now Asian trash and not from NC.

Haverty's is decent.

Try Nowell's in Cary. They have good quality contemporary furniture.

Wayside Furniture (on Hillsborough street beyond the fairgrounds) has been in business for over 45 years and has top quality stuff. We have bought several pices from them over the years and have always been satisfied.

And remember that for every family that moves TO the triangle, there's another leaving it....so, try Craigslist. I've found some beautiful pieces over the years from Craigslisters!

Well....not exactly! There are far more coming than leaving.

If you just drive up Glenwood (70) between Crabtree mall and 540 you will see about a dozen furniture stores.

I just went to Furnitureland South and found it well worth the time and gas to make a trip out. The sales people were great and they gave me a great price - better than anyone else. I wasn't looking for high end furniture, but well made pieces based on a modest budget. They have something for everyone whether you want to spend a lot of money or a little. I just highly recommend you get a salesperson to walk you through or you will certainly get lost and never find what you are looking for. My sales person walked me directly to the pieces he knew would interest me and were in my price range, and he gave me prices right there on the spot. They start off at 40 to 60% below retail, but you can negotiate lower. I was always skeptical about going to High Point for furniture deals, but I'll never shop anywhere else again if I need to buy a roomful of furniture.
