Durham, N.C. — Two students from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics won regional honors in a national competition for their project on genetics and chemotherapeutic drugs.
For those who don't know about NCSSM (North Carolina School of Science and Math) it is a public boarding school (only boarding) for 11th and 12th graders that is considered a part of the NC University system. It is in Durham, and is open, by recommendation of their high school counselor, and PSAT scores to all students in NC. The school tries to have at least one student from each county in NC. Students submit their PSAT scores, and recommendations, then come to campus for an interview. It is quite an amazing place, has a great group of students and staff.
Anyhow, there are 12 (maybe a couple more) of these types of schools in the country, so all of you guys out there with talented kids, you may want to consider NCSSM! Of course, the competition for students in wake county is VERY high, so this may be one time when you don't want to live in wake county when your child is applying to the school!
I remember when one of my best friends ended up going there. There were only three from my class that made it that year.
