Hi I've been helping my hubby with his triangle job search. I was hoping those savvy in the software field could let me know if there are any other job search sites we should be looking at? He has 9 yrs experience, non managerial, c++ only, most of his experience is in the gaming and defense industries. He'd love to be able to use his top secret clearance.
TEKsystems and Aerotek are the best staffing firms in the area. TEKsystems specializes in IT positions and Aerotek Specializes in Contract Engineering more embedded software development. Their number is 816-1500. They sponser the Thingamajob website. Great people to work with.
I found a job in another field, in another state by googling the profession in the are and getting a list of companies that employed my profession and then went to their websites and all of them had a place for postings for employment, if any were available.

I actually found Aerotek to be rather disappointing. They are one of the biggest in the area for embedded software, but I found that some of the little guys worked harder for me. I ended up going with Apex Systems. All of the people that I worked with there were very nice and attentive. My only complaints were related to the "human resources" side of the office (e.g., payroll, benefits, etc).
IndigoBlue, I don't know if you're still checking this thread, but I thought I'd try to help.
There are a few video game development companies in the area (I've heard of there being as many as 30, but that may be an exaggeration). I also know that they tend to dislike hiring through recruiters because of the extra expense, so encourage your husband to contact the companies personally. A recruitor will not immediately damn his chances because he has so much experience, but it may hurt. Just FYI.
I don't know the names of any others. You actually might want to check with the Wake Technical Community College, of all places. A local news station recently did a story about their game development courses & a rep from the school claimed that there were 30+ game development companies in the Triangle. Maybe someone should ask them to verify that information.
Thank you MrsSteel! I wasn't aware of Virtual Heroes. I'll check that one out!
One of the below companies made him an offer he didn't like, and the two remaining ones from your list he's been planning to send his resume to this week. There's also a third not on your list that along with the other two I found while doing some googling this wknd.
We're waiting to hear final word from a gaming company (not on the below list) that said they would probably notify him this week, and he has a phone interview with another gaming company (not on the below list) this week. So there are at least seven out there 30 does sound like a suspiciously high number. Perhaps they're counting sub-companies. Some of the gaming companies have two or three divisions that have different company names.
We're fortunate in that we're not in a time crunch, so he's been applying somewhat leisurely, though we'd really really like to move before our current lease is up at the end of July. I hope he ends up at a gaming company The pay is typically among the lowest in the industry, but the engineers seem to have the most fun And that is more important to me - that the hubby be happy at work
