It is my understanding that this started as a NCSU thing and has gotten bigger over the years, with non-NCSU runners, families, etc. getting involved. I believe that KK has had to get involved, just for the reason Mike says...it has gotten so big, they need to be prepared.

By the way, registration for the Krispy Kreme Challenge is closed. They had over 5,000 registrants this year! I hope they have enough vomit vats to accomodate all that!
What was up with the dudes pouring water on their doughnuts? I mean, seriously, this isn't Nathan's. Not to mention it was probably counter productive for a single dozen.

Maybe they thought that it would help wash off some of that nasty lard and sugar they like to call "glaze"! My boyfriend had me meet him at Krispy Kreme with some extra liquids because they just don't give you enough water to eat a whole dozen. It helped him, even though he was not feeling well!
The best technique seemed to be to squash about 4 donuts at a time in a ziploc bag with your foot, then eat 3-4 flattened out donut pancakes.
