Hi,

I do not own a car, nor do I plan to own a car, but I would like to keep my NC license, except I need non-owner's insurance. Does anyone have recommendations of where to get this? I heard this is more pricey than liability insurance IF you own your car (??).

Default Living car free yay!

I know that this post was a while back , but I thought the info might be useful for others. GEICO is the only big insurance company that I found that carries non owner car insurance at a cost of $315 a year for someone with a good record. In the state of NC you need to have proof of insurance to get a regular drivers license. I myself will be getting a fleet vehicle only license for zipcar and rental car use. I am happily a non car owner now for nine years. I would rather not pay $315 for the honor of taking folks to the airport so they can save on parking. I just got more of my life back.

So you don't have to carry any insurance if you have a "fleet vehicle only license"? I didn't know there was such a thing. Not sure, thought, that I like the idea of anyone driving any kind of vehicle on the public roads without at least some level of liability insurance.

Seems to me it should be both - or maybe more accurately that a driver who creates liability should carry insurance. The rates for uninsured driver coverage on my insurance are already too high . . .

My agent says that anyone who drives my car with permission is covered by my insurance. Therefore I could loan my car to you and you are covered. Now maybe you don't want to impose in any sense. Perhaps you could buy an "umbrella" policy which would protect you from all sorts of liability, automotive or otherwise.
