Anyone? Frankly I'm getting this mostly because it's required - probably be looking for a pretty "bare bones" policy. Any experiences or things you've heard - good OR bad - about any local agents/companies appreciated. And pls if you don't mind, don't "pimp" someone as a favor. Thx

I would just call your auto insurance provider to see if they partner with anyone to provide renter's insurance. Sometimes you get better rates when auto / home insurance are bundled together. When I rented I had geico auto insurance and dealt with them to get renters insurance (which was handled throguh their partnership with Travelers Ins.)

This is what I did. I called Geico and got a policy. It was very inexpensive. I believe Geico actually uses Travellers.

I used my car insurance company as well. I'm thinking they give you better rates based on your history and their experience with you. My insurance company is State Farm and I've had pretty good luck with having low rates with them.

It doesn't cost much and it's good to have. My co-worker didn't have it and lost everything in a freak electrical fire while she and her family were out running errands. It was pretty devastating.

Jeff Langlios-State Farm

I don't know his number, but I'm sure you could google it. He's a big agent in the apartment industry. When I worked on site, it's who I always recommended to my residents. Very knowledgable with great rates.

I also can't recommend renter's insurance enough. Working in the industry, I've seen it all. Things happen, it's best to be prepared. I had a fire once that destroyed 22 units-only 6 of them were insured.

agree with previous posters..I have mine through State Farm with my auto insurance and it is very inexpensive, only adds about $18 a month to my car insurance policy for the renters insurance..good luck.

I have State Farm auto insurance as well...

I think mine is like $9 extra a month for a 900 sq. ft. apartment.

I have Geico auto insurance and considered getting my renter's insurance through them as well. We ended up getting better rates at State Farm. What I also liked about State Farm was that you could actually go into an office and talk to a person. I prefer having a "relationship" with an agent, especially when something goes wrong.

Not what you asked, but in addition to covering damage to your own belongings, a tenant's homeowners' policy would also cover your liability for damage caused by your own negligence, such as...forgetting a pan on the stove that starts a fire. If something like that happened, your landlord or their insurance company will come to you for reimbursement, and you would be very glad to have insurance to protect you. We always think it will never happen to us but, believe me, it happens.
