If spouse A were to work at Duke and spouse B were to work in Raleigh, but will also need to travel to Sanford for frequent work meetings, what would be a good community to check out? Neither spouse wants to commute more than a half hour, but spouse A would be willing to commute further (up to 45 mins) to live in the right community, so long as spouse B did not have to drive more than 30 mins. Community would need good schools and friendly people with price range to $250K. On a map and Pittsboro seemed like a good location, geographically. However it seems a bit isolated and smallish.

I'd recommend taking a look at the west side of Apex, too - lots more around to do, right near Beaver Creek Commons (hwy 55 and 64). Spouse A would travel about 40 minutes to Duke, depending on the time of day, and Spouse B would be looking at about 20-30 minutes to Raleigh depending on time of day, and about 30 minutes to Sandford, against traffic at rush hour.

There are a couple neighborhoods in there that might work for you - try neighborhoods near Olive Chapel Elementary.

This is not a serious answer to your question (I don't have one), but I have to say: when I read your question, my mind flashed back to those darned SATs!

"One train leaves Chicago travelling east at 75 miles/hour. Another train leaves New York at the same time...."

Sorry I can't *actually* be of help (don't know P'boro well), but good luck!

LOL! Yeah, people on this board do have quite the sense of humor!

Pittsboro.
That little town that I occasionally drive through on the way to the NC Zoo. The only thing I remember about it was that it was small, lots of "locals" (ie: older folks), not many places to stop & eat, no shopping centers (that might have changed) and this church right dab in the middle of town where you have to drive around trying to change lanes to get to the street you want to exit to. My family & I used to drive around it for a few minutes (honestly, dad could not get over) and we would all scream out, "Look! There's Big Ben!" (some statue of an old guy)
Thats about all that I remember of it, plus there was alot of cemetaries.

Anyway, I second Apex. Other surrounding cities worth looking into:
Cary, Chapel Hill, Morrisville and Carrboro.

Good luck!

I think that was the court house, but I do remember those days of trying to maneuver around it. It was amazing how much traffic you could run into in that little town on Sunday afternoon coming home from Charlotte.
