Went to the Tangerine Cafe in Cary with friends this week. I had heard good things and really wanted to try it. I was not disappointed! The food was wonderful - Thai, Vietnamese. I had salmon is a miso glaze and it was truly the best piece of salmon I have ever had. We tried a variety of appetizers as well - all good. The restaurant is small and nondescript, in a shopping center at the corner of Cary Pkway and Old Apex Rd (there's an Ace Hardware there). I highly recommend it!

The wife and I finally tried it last week and enjoyed it. We went early on a Thursday (5:30pm or so) and there was nobody there. The previous attempt the place was packed, we were told we could wait, and after ten or so minutes a table came free. They started to walk us to it, and then were told it was reserved. We were miffed and left (No mention on the menu, on the outside of the restaurant or their website about taking reservations). The FIRST time we tried, they were closed. Apparently they are not open on Mondays.

Some things to keep in mind if you try and eat there!

ljd1010 - I'm glad you enjoyed it - it's one of my favorite places! I usually get the Crispy Catfish but I'll have to try the salmon the next time I go.

Here's their website:

Welcome to Tangerine Cafe! | tangerine Cafe | Tangerine Cafe

Now I want to go there this weekend!

edit: DGmayor - I remember your posting about the problems you had there. I'm glad you finally got to try it. Usually the service is very good, so you must have hit them on an unusually busy night. They are closed Mondays (seems like a lot of place are), and there was one time last summer when they were closed for several weeks for holiday. It is a pretty small place with maybe only 10-12 tables.

One of my friends had the catfish and loved it!! We went on a Tuesday evening and it was pretty quiet - maybe 2-3 other parties there. Our waiter was "D" or "Dee" and he was super!! I am definitely going back. He told us they are quite busy on Fri/Sat evenings and that reservations are accepted.

It's definitely one of my favorite places to eat as well. Try the Chicken with Macadamia nuts.

Yeah granted we were the only ones in there when we arrived, but the waiter/host was extremely nice and attentive. Half way through our meal another guy came in and the waiter started talking to him like they were old friends and the guy was shocked that he even remembered him

I had the chicken with macadamia nuts actually and it was delicious!

Second visit last night. Wife got some Green Chicken Curry thing that she loved, and I had the Thai Fried Rice with chicken and shrimp, and it was also fantastic. This place is quickly becoming our new favorite spot. And sure enough, the waiter/host remembered us from our only other visit three weeks ago.

Default Delicious!

Thanks to some good reviews on this board, we decided to try the Tangerine Cafe. We've been twice and both times were excellent. It's now one of our favorites! The Coconut shrimp with pinapple chutney appetizer was delicious. Other favorites are the Seafood with Thai Basil, Pad Thai, & Pho. And don't leave without trying the Coconut Rice pudding! It is a small cafe, so if you have more than 4 in your party, you might want to call ahead to be sure they can accomodate you.
