All the towns look fairly similar Are there ones that people would recommend for a professional family with three young boys? We are trying to stay away from the postage stamp lots if possible. Our price range is 300-400k
Older homes = larger lots.
If you must have a new or nearly new home, you may find it comes with a smaller lot.
There are some very nice homes in the "Fuquay Varina, Apex, Holly Springs, SE Cary, S Raleigh, Swift Creek, Lake Wheeler" area at the higher end of your price range, with 1/2 acre and more.
The larger lots typically are indicative of on-site septic systems which require more space.
Great info thanks. I will have my wife check out the site. Where in Mass are you from? Where do you live in NC? Did you consider any other areas in NC i.e. Wilmington, Charlotte, Ashville?
If money isn't an issue and you can afford private schools, it's probably a toss-up. North Carolina is probably better for certain things like a slower pace of life, probably lower cost of living and less exposure to things like hurricanes (although on the Gulf coast that's probably not as much of a concern). Florida is definitely better if you like to have the ocean/gulf right there. The air is also better in Florida. The Triangle, especially Wake County, can have terrible air quality problem during the summer with it's ozone days.
If money is absolutely no issue, I'd personally choose Florida (or, better yet, a home in each place). If your resources are more limited, I'd probably prefer North Carolina.
Wherever you choose to go, make sure you have a job or a business that can make you a steady income, as the job market in both places isn't very good...
