Have been in the North Raleigh/Wake Forest area for a few years and have not yet found a church in which we feel comfortable. We are pretty much traditional Calvanists, thus looking for a Presbyterian church. However, we are social conservatives and the mainline Presbyterian church is not for us. In other areas we have attended PCA churches. We are not "locked-in" to Presbyterain / PCA churches. I guess to sum it up we are looking for solid biblical and theological teaching, in a setting that has a good combination of traditional and contemporary worship. However, the teaching is the most important.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Definitely check out Connections Church. Very friendly and welcoming no matter your background or what you look like but solid biblical teaching. The setting is casual. Lots of coffee and snacks and time to get to meet others. Connections places a high priority on building community/relationships, not just pretending to be "religious".

About 10 minutes from North Raleigh (depending of course where you are). Lots of our members live up there.

Check out Vintage 21, it may not be a perfect fit on every issue, but the "hands closed" issues should be familiar.

How far are you willing to drive? I don't know a ton about the churches in Raleigh, but I grew up in Durham and there's a few solid, reformed, contemporary churches there. Church of the Good Shepherd is a pretty good bet, as is Christ Community Church (a plant of CGS)...Grace Community Church is Carrboro is also good, along with Chapel Hill Bible Church.

We loved Providence Bapitst. Great church filled with kind, loving people. Pastor Horner is a great teaching pastor and we really enjoyed the music.

Have you tried North Raleigh United Methodist church on Honeycutt in N. Raleigh?

The 8:30 traditional service and 9:45 contemporary services might be what you are looking for.

They have 3 pastors - middle aged man, youngish woman, and elderly (australian) man. All three are great but appeal to different folks - so it creates a nice mix of a congregation. they also seem to have a very active senior group that meets on Wed and their programs always seem interesting.

They do like their bible study - and routinely start new bible studies - they have different ones each sunday during/after church and then they have short-term programs throughout the week. They actually have an upcoming sunday night program in January - all four sundays - with a guy from Duke Divinity prof emeritus - Mickey Efird - I forget the topic but it is always well attended and you don't need to make reservations b/c it will be in the sanctuary from 6-8pm. Come check it out. Methodist is kind of 'middle of the road' and try not to offend anyone and include everyone (my words, not theirs). We came from a local episcopal church and are attending for their music programme. I didn't realize, but much of the music in the hymnal is very similar.

The contemporary service takes some getting used to b/c of the relaxed nature of the service and the new music but the prayer is just as solid, if not more so. It is really great if your kids like to attend church with you (and eschew sunday school) b/c folks are less likely to turn and stare in the contemporary svce versus other churches we have gone to.

good luck finding a church home. keep looking - N. Raleigh has lots to offer.

For solid Biblical teaching have you tried your local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses? Or you can check them out online as well... Just a thought :-)
