Anyone know of a supplier in the area with a decent selection of smooth, river rock type decorative stone in medium sizes (2-3") for landscaping. I'm NOT looking for crushed stone or pea gravel... something larger that is mostly smooth.

Thanks!

Have you tried Triangle Landscape Supplies? There are three locations in the Triangle, but I stopped by Raleigh (near Capital Blvd and Gresham Lake Rd?) last year looking for something similar to you. Triangle Landscape Supplies - Rock, Sand, and Gravel (http://www.trianglelandscapesupplies.com/products_rock.html - broken link)

This type of stone is often called "River Jack" or "River Stone", and the 2-3" is usually the small size. Medium is usually 4-6". But it depends on who you buy it from, so just ask.

We bought our "Medium Pennsylvania River Jack" down in Sanford, so I unfortunately can't recommend a specific vendor in Raleigh though. Although a quick Google did turn up quite a few vendors in the area. I've been told to check with Marietta stone before, but I don't know if they are only a construction stone vendor versus architectural/decorative.

I don't know how much you need, but be prepared for sticker shock. It's about $200-250 a ton/pallet, not delivered.

Yep, that's about right.

In our case, 1 ton(1 pallet) covered our french drain area of approximately 4x20'.
