I have been trying to find some review of this charter school, but can't find any info besides the school website. Is anyone familiar or know anything about this school? Is it mostly for at risk kids?

Thanks,
Heather

It used to be called Panther Creek High School. They just recently changed the name and yes, it is for at risk kids.

Panther Creek is in Cary on McCrimmon pkwy and is in the Wake County Public School System.

Southern Wake used to be called Community Partners Charter High School.

I don't have any other information on the school though.

Oops, I don't know where Panther Creek came from. Now that you mentioned it, I do recall Community Partners. Sorry for the misinformation!

Default Southern Wake Academy

My son is graduating this year from SWA. It suited our needs well. The school is small; therefore, the classroom size is small. Our experience with the staff and teachers has been very positive. They truly seem to care about the students. Parents are encouraged, even required, to put some time and effort into the school through volunteering. There is not a very broad athletics program due to size, but that could change with the growth of the school. Hopefully they will be moving to better facilities for the next school year. The best thing to do is call and set up an appointment and go check it out. There aren't a lot of bells and whistles, but some things are more important than that. Not a perfect school, but then again, I don't know of one.

Hmmm all I know is that a couple kids who were kicked out of Holly Springs HS and just happen to also have been picked up by police on several occasions attend that school. I have heard that the school is trying to really make a name for itself.

Default Southern Wake Acedemy

My son attends SWA and he is definitely not an "at risk student" he is in honors classes and is a typical high school kid. As a parent I like the small classroom and personal attention he gets. I gave my son the opportunity to decide himself on a traditional public high school (which he has friends at) or SWA. He chose SWA. I have always been involved in my kids education and do not regret sending him here. As far as the comment made about some kids that go there were picked up from the police, Take a look at the 2 other traditional high schools around it, Atleast at SWA there isn't a need for police patrol around the building, not to mention the ongoing drug problems in the bigger schools.

I taught at this school when it was called CPCHS.
It is a charter school. The school´s charter states that it is a school for 'at risk' students.
This should be considered in your choice.
The school has a very low student to teacher ratio, this must be its best selling point.
Look at the school web site, there is one teacher for English and Spanish, I can find not teacher for social studies. Added to this, I wonder how well they might deliver sports or science subjects.
I recall that provision for the latter was very poor.
There are some excellent teachers working there, maths in particular. Though, the head is a real j..k.
Hope this helps.
