And I would pay extra for a place that does the filing by hand (not a drill).

Default I HATE drills too...

...but I've never been to a place that doesn't use them. I even went to an upscale nail place recently and they used filing drills too. Yikes!
That said, I like the place in the Trader Joes shopping center, corner of Cary Parkway and Kildaire Farm Road. It's on the side of TJ's. Small, clean place. I can't remember the name. They do use drills, but the pink and white gel fills I get there are pretty darn good! They will also give you a free soda or water while you're there.

I go to a place in Apex that I love - right near the Goodwill retail center on Williams Drive - they do great pedicures and gel nails. I have also gone to the place on 55 right past high house in the plaza with blockbuster accross from Harris Teeter - although both use drills.

I don't get mine done (they grow like wildfire already and I'm too rough on my hands to keep them nice with acrylics)... but... A&L Nails over on Kildaire Farm Road seems to hand file, if I'm reading correctly (from their reviews).

You could give them a call.

Get gel nails instead of acrylic. I get colored gel now, which I just love.

Do they last longer? How much maintenance? I would love to have nails I can keep polished. Natural nails really run through a good manicure.

Ask for a Shellac manicure on your own nails. My nails have never looked better since I started getting them. They are now long and don't break and the polish does not chip, smudge or smear and lasts 14 days.

I love Classic Nail Salon in Cornerstone Shopping Center (corner of Davis/high house). I have gone there since I was 17. Only two nail technicians and they try to do what you ask and the good news is you can go back to the same person every time.

Where do you get your Shellac manicure done?

Also, as far as maintenance goes, do they have to remove the product and reapply at each visit?

I have natural nails and wear a french but I have to re-do it every 5 days or so to keep it looking nice.

I'd love to have someone else do my nails AND have them last!
