Umm, I don't get it. *What* humidity? I've been comparing the weather where I grew up (Southwest PA) and Raleigh. Each time I've checked it's been 10 degrees warmer here, but 20% less humidity. And we get the breeze here that we didn't get back home.

Someone did tell me that this summer has been pretty cool. I'd have to agree. It doesn't even seem that bad yet. Maybe it will get humid in August?

That's absolutely right. Some of the worst summer days in upstate NY rival the worst summer days here... Upstate NY just has maybe 3 or 4 of those days throughout the summer instead of 6 straight weeks.

Hot in NC feels much cooler to me than hot in Maryland did, for some reason. My boyfriend in Fayetteville warned me about the "horrible" humidity down here before I moved but it turns out to be a lot more pleasant than it ever was in Maryland.

Born and raised in Selma, NC. Lived in Texas for some time. I know how much more tolerable the summers are here than in Texas.

Have you lived here more than one summer? The summer hasn't been that bad yet.

Heh, really. We aren't into that late July/Early August stuff yet. This is just the warmup act! (get it? Warm up?)

But there is a difference between being *hot* and being humid. I've been here for a few summers now and there is a big difference. Yes, it gets really hot here, but the humidity factor seems lower on average. Summer in Mass consists of 85 degree days with really high humidity, making it feel like a steam room the moment you walk out the door, sweat already forming just walking to your car. You feel sticky.

here it can get to 100 + but you can still walk to your car without feeling like you forgot to dry off from your shower. I'll take that any day.

Last year my family went up to NY for a wedding in August. Really hot down here. But when we got to upstate NY, while the temps were only in the low 80's we were more miserable because of the humidity. It was like a blanket of wetness just drapes on you the moment you step outdoors. Despite the cooler temps, it was more uncomfortable than being out in blazing summer time here.

Now that might just be us, but my entire family has noted the same thing, even relatives who come to visit.

Growing up in MA we only had window fans, and some nights the humidity was enough to make you want to peel your skin off. Dog days were pretty much confined to August, though.

We have been quite able to handle the NC summers so far, this being our 5th.

Having central AC helps a lot.........
