Tony Avent's nursery is only open to the public a few weekends a year and this is the last one till October. I have been wanting to go for so long and it was well worth the 45 minute drive from Chapel Hill. So many wonderful and hard to find perennials. I was in heaven. Hot as hades and not crowded at all today. If you love gardening go just to walk thru his magnificent gardens. What a treat. Not affliated with them at all. Just another plant nut.

We went during the Spring open house. It is amazing!!! I'm sticking to trying to grow more common things first. My previously green thumb is turning brown in all this clay.

But I don't think you can beat them for unique varieties.

My wife checked it out during their spring open house as well based on recommendations in this forum. She came back with several plants and many more ideas.

Only several plants....We filled up the minivan and I conveniently got lost while my husband paid the bill. he's such a dear. Never said a word about the NINETY plants I picked out. I was definitely in the ZONE. What a high!!!

When we got home I immediately ordered another 5 cubic yards of screened top soil. Gota make a new flower bed before the soil comes at 9 a.m.
Better than booze or anyting else decadent and so rewarding.
A girl can't have too many flower beds.
