I've searched some other threads, but haven't found many ideas. My parents are coming to visit this weekend and I'm taking them to Chapel Hill Sunday as we've never been. I'm going to take them to University Mall because I've heard a lot about Southern Season and some of the other stores, but what else should we do? I was thinking of packing a picnic lunch- any ideas on somewhere nearby we could enjoy the weather and scenery? Thanks!

Head down to West Franklin Street and also check out a bit of the campus

How about a walk through the North Carolina Botanical Garden?

Take them to Maple View Dairy for some ice cream.

Be sure not to miss Cameron's, when you're at University Mall. Visit the "shrine" upstairs!

Southern Seasons is good. Also you could swing by Duke Gardens and to see the impressive Duke Chapel. It's only a 10 t0 15 minute drive from chapel hill and really on the way if you visit a Southern Season. That's where I always take visiting family when I lived in Chapel Hill. If you haven't seen Duke Gardens, you are really missing something....and I don't traditionally like going to gardens.

I think Duke Gardens is something my parents would really enjoy. Question though, it says the gardens are open from 8am to dusk every day of the year, but the Doris Duke Center Gardens don't open until 1 on Sunday. I'd like to take them in the morning before it gets hot... are we missing anything amazing by not seeing the DDCG?

I think I'll put Maple View Dairy on the itinerary also! Thanks guys!

No. The main attraction is the garden. DDCG is mainly used for wedding receptions and other stuff like that.

NC Botanical Gardens offers free tours every Saturday morning from 10 to noon. Try Weaver Street and Carrboro Mill area for true flavor of CH. Try Carrboro and Chapel Hill websites for up to date activcities. If they can stand the heat there arelots of outside activities. Enjoy showing off Chapel Hill. Hope you can convey the unique flavor which is Chapel Hill.
