My husband and I are relocating to the Raleigh Area the summer. We have two boys - 2 and 5- and we are moving for Better Schools and less crime. I am from North Carolina and my family lives in Wilson so we were actually thinking about living in Knightdale, NC and maybe working in Raleigh. We were going to do this to still have a smaller town atmosphere and still be close enought to Wilson still but have access to the things available in Raleigh.

How are the schools in Knightdale? Anyone live there or know of anyone? Or is Raleigh the better choice?

I do not personally know about the schools, but you can go to greatschools.net and read the test scores and some have parent reviews. I haven't heard great things about the schools in knightdale, but again, I have no personal experience. Knightdale will definitely get more popular as 540 is scheduled to open from next week....it will make it much more accessible to raleigh and rtp.

I would also recommend you check out the trianglemommies.com group, I am a member (I have two girls, 4 and 2) and the group meets for playgroups, has parents night out, etc. They have a large and active forum which can help you wade through many things, doctors, peds, housing, etc.

Good luck
Leigh

If you're planning a visit, you can also tour the schools to see how you feel about them, which is always a good idea. The schools here are usually pretty accomodating.

I echo what Leigh said about accessibility to Raleigh via I-540. The anticipation has been building for some time now, and it should create much easier commutes from that area, depending of course on where you're commuting to!

In terms of what amenities already exist in Knightdale, the retail seems to have preceded the growth somewhat in anticipation of the 540 opening, so there is plenty of shopping, without the big crowds! I think there was another thread on this topic a couple days ago, and there was an article in the paper yesterday about the upcoming "boom":

Good luck!
