I worked in collections for many years. My suggestions are to ask for a supervisor the next time someone calls you. Tell them you are receiving calls and ask for your number to be taken out. A lot of times collectors are in a dialer system don't take the time to take the area code out to keep the calls from coming. Writing a threatening letter to the company may help as well as contacting the BBB to file a complaint.
I've been getting calls for someone named "Julie" for 7 years now. They've become less frequent but I still get them a few times a year. From what I have gleaned, Julie was in her first year of college. Credit card companies are notorious for using predatory practices and targeting these young people who often times are quite unaware what they are getting into and the consequences.
I've become rather protective of "Julie" over the last 7 years because, although I have no idea who she is, I have seen the unfortunate consequences of preying on this vulnerable group of people.
To be honest, I've been less friendly to the collection agencies then they've been to me.
I hope whoever "Julie" is, she is doing well and digging herself out from under the mess.
It just chaps my cheeks when we send our youngins out into the world, feeling we've prepared them the very best we can but when these credit card companies are allowed access to campuses and student names and addresses that goes beyond pale.
Errrrrrrr, didn't mean to turn this into a sermon or hijack the thread.
The woman who used to have my phone # is a real winner - not only did I get collection calls, but also calls from the Wake County jail, and some Federal prison in Georgia! It gives you a choice to accept the calls, and for a while I didn't. Eventually I did answer and told the prisoner that the # had changed hands! No more prison calls after that!
Wheeeee...
haha sounds like the former owner of my phone number. I've had collections call, their parole officer, you name it. I also think there is a little old lady somewhere in Johnston County that has my number with a 910 area code because I'm constantly getting phone calls from her doctor, contractors, etc, reminding me of appointments she has set up
I don't have problems with collection agencies but do often get calls from several spammers.
I discovered a great feature with my Android phone. I can make a contact and set it so that a calls from any of it's saved numbers will go straight to voice mail, and my phone doesn't even ring, (just shows a "Missed Call").
I have that contact (named "Spammer Ignored"), set up with over 16 different spammer phone numbers so far. Every so often I'll notice the missed call icon, clear the notice, and life goes on.
WE had this happen for over 3 ye so we gave up and got a new number sad to said it was from a old Day care so we had parent calling !
