I recently moved to the area and am shopping around for a gym. Of the ones I visited, Rapid Fitness is currently the front-runner. Plus, it's the closest.

Any thoughts on the place? Likes? Dislikes? Additionally, has anyone had experience with their personal trainers? (Do their trainers have degrees and/or proper certifications?)

I'm simply soliciting opinions before making a decision. I don't know any current members, so I thought I'd ask a wider crowd! Thanks in advance!

I see on their site you can get a 3-day free pass...have you used that and tried it out?

I have been a member since they opened this past january. I have no issues with the gym, not overcrowded, reasonable, good equipment, clean, and for me plenty of room in the free weight room.

regarding there trainers, check out rapids site online. I think they have a bio on there trainers

A friend of mine who has checked out a lot of gyms in the area -- and spent a lot of time in gyms -- was recently hired as a certified personal trainer there and is VERY happy with Rapid Fitness.

sorry to thread jack, but how much are you paying for a membership to Rapid? I know how gym memberships vary depending upon who signs you up, etc...

Check out Planet Fitness. I have a membership there and I like it a lot. It is only $10 a month with no contract. There is one on Glenwood right behind the Carmax store.John

I also go to planet fitness but was looking for a gym that offered boxing and activities similar to it. I check out Rapid Fitness (looks amazing) but on their website I couldn't find a membership fee. That worried me because usually when it doesn't show the price something is usually pricey. I was wondering if any of the members there could give tell me how much a membership is and contract details.
I would greatly appreciate it kevinpotter123.

I visited health clubs in the area last year and posted a detailed account of my trips. I can't locate it from where i am now but my experience at Rapid was less than pleasant but if you are looking for a low-cost place like Rapid or Planet you aren't investing much so you can't go to wrong i suppose. I am pretty sure it was at Rapid that a kid at the front desk asked if i wanted a job as a Trainer so that in itself is a red flag. If a club doesn't require an NASM cert than you are going to get the bottom of the trainer barrel so beware and be sure to ask.
