I am headed over to the Regulator Bookshop in Durham tonight to get an autographed book from UNC basketball coach Roy Willaims. While looking at the store's website I noticed they had a neat youtube video (filmed at the Regulator) about buying local that I thought I would share here.
I was there too! It was pretty neat that Tim Crothers was there too giving personalized signings, it was a great event.
Yes, that was nice. I asked Tim Crothers to sign my book as well.I met soem very nice people while waiting in line. Many of them were excited about UNC signing a top prospect that day. I have to admite I was clueless about that.
I go very lucky and the ticket that came with my book had a "C" on it which meant I was one of the first people to get my book singed. I was out of there just a few minutes after 7:30 when it all started. I enjoyed the little talke Roy gave before the signing started. My only regret is I didn't have my old camera with me.
I've loved The Regulator since I was in college in Chapel Hill in the early '80s. It really is the essence of the "locally-owned store" and is wonderful that it continues to thrive. The Raleigh counterpart is Books at Quail Ridge. I was lucky to have an appointment in the Ninth Street area recently with time to kill, and spent an hour wandering around in The Regulator.
I was just there last week buying b-day presents for the husband guy. I like that whole stretch of 9th street. No city should be without an area like that.
