Anyone found a GOOD salon to have Japanese straightening or thermal reconditioning done to their curly hair? I have thick curly hair and have really been wanting to have it done but am scared they won't know what they are doing and will mess my hair up. Have heard Salon Blu and Salon 54.....actually heard bad things about Salon 54. Am hoping not to have to go to New York to have this done to my hair if possible.
Thanks!
I had my hair thermally straightened for 2 yrs @ Salon 54 and my hair was silky smooth and in great condition. Not sure what bad things are being said but I had no problems.
Thanks for the tips. I will check out Hito Salon and put Salon 54 back on my list. I had just read one person's bad experience at Salon 54 but Lottamoxie, glad to hear your experience was good!
I've been wanting to try this too but it's just SO expensive. For now, I'll have to settle for a 30 minute blowout. Please check back in and let us know your results and the costs.
With regards to cost - I know that NY places can charge upwards of hundreds of dollars, but I don't think the going rate in this area is quite that expensive. Furthermore, certain salons (that I may or may not have recommended) have stylists directly from New York, which addresses your original concern.
I tried all three:
Salon Blu - professional, excellent results, $600+
Salon 54 - not so professional, acceptable results, $400+
Hitto Salon - professional, excellent results, uses japanese products, $200+
I highly recommend Alex at Hitto Salon. In NY I used to go to Hidy Hair Salon ($450), Jay is excellent.
I recently had the BKT and I'm very happy with the results. Don't think I'll be going back to the TR. Good luck!
hi redjuel,
Yes it's the Brazilian Keratin Treatment. I paid a little over $200 at Pro-Hair Dominican Salon in New Bern Avenue. Price depends on hair length and texture.
