We are making our second trip to the area.

Last time we stay in Cary. Now we'd like to stay in Chapell Hill or Carrboro to get a better feel for these areas. However, it's becoming hard to beat our previous hotel price, a 2 bedroom suite for us and the kids, including a kitchenette, for under $200/night.

Any suggestions? We need two bedrooms - kids keep us up all night wanting to party if we all share a room.

If you want something with a kitchenette you could stay at the Extended Stay in Durham. I don't know if they have 2 bedroom suites but it is very reasonably priced so you could get two rooms next to each other. It is in a very safe neighborhood (my mother-in-law lives just down the street, in fact), good shopping nearby (e.g., SuperTarget) and a short <10 minutes drive into Chapel Hill.

Thanks folks, I'll look into those.

Would you know what's right around the residence inn? I see it's about 4 miles from UNC, which is great - what's right there? Meaning is it a hotels area? Near a park? In business area? Next to residences?

thanks.

It's just off US 15-501 and East Franklin Street - generally a commercial area. Go north a short distance and you're on I-40. Head south on US 15-501 and you'll pass a shopping plaza, skirt the east edge of campus, and head toward Carrboro to the west (via what's called the "bypass") and Pittsboro to the south. Head south on E. Franklin Street (it splits from 15-501) and you'll pass through some retail, then residential, and then directly into the heart of Chapel Hill at the north end of the UNC campus on West Franklin Street. If you travel west from the hotel, along Erwin and then to Weaver Dairy Road, you'll be in the residential area on the north end of Chapel Hill, around Timberlyne (and a couple of "strip malls").

It is across the highway from the meadowmont development (a gigantic planned community). Technically within walking distance, but you would not want to walk across US-54 with kids. Theres several restaurants and shops in the development, and a small park about a mile away. But it is really pretty far out of town.

I think we're talking about different hotels. The one I referenced is a new one at Erwin and 15-501.

Sorry, brainfart, I was thinking of the courtyard.
