Read at WRAL about the 40 or so cases of sickness at 42nd Street in the past 2 weeks.

Over 40 people claim sickness after eating oysters at 42nd Street Oyster Bar in Raleigh - 12/22/09 - Raleigh News - abc11.com

My wife and I go every week and have raw oysters ( usually a dozen each ) and have never got sick during the last 2 years EXCEPT we were both sick with D and V after going there 12/4.

Wife said on TV the manager said it was steamed oysters to blame - I understood that steaming was recommended to KILL the nasty things that are in there?

I reported our cases to the authority and they said there were dozens of cases reported

Wow...42nd street is one of my favorites places to eat, although I do not eat oysters! Sorry to hear that you were sick.

If you eat RAW oysters, how could the steamer be to blame?

Vicki

Good point. It was the manager who said on tv that steamed oysters were to blame but we never eat steamed oysters. I guess the jury is still out on the 'Real' cause 'cos the lady I spoke with at public health said there was a wide variety of food involved

The current WRAL story says the source is from Louisiana oysters, specifically. Guess we'll see, since they're continuing to serve oysters from NC, as well as everything else.

Still only mentioning steamed oysters. I can't imagine it being isolated to those oysters only unless the raw oysters were not out of Louisiana but that seems unlikely.

Sorry to hear that, but at least there is some consolation in knowing that lots of other people got sick, too, so it is being investigated as a high priority and at least you can be pretty certain that the restaurant is the cause.

We used to live in New Orleans.

If you saw what was floating around in the Mississippi River, you'd never want to eat anything from there.

Remember what washed ashore in Hurricane Katrina - Yummy?

I'd still eat there. I love that place...never gotten sick. CiCi's Pizza on the other hand is a place I will never eat at again
