I've been living here for a while now and can't help but notice that the average person here is approximately seven to thirteen pounds heavier than the average person in other cities.
Southern food = fried anything and everything. When I was at the fair and saw fried pecan pie, it sort of hit me. But hey, to each his own. You only live once and life is indeed short. Southern folks like their food and I like their food too.
I couldn't respond to this thread when I first read it because I had a Cheeseburger to finish.
Seriously-most of the people I interact with in the Triangle are fitter than I am. I guess if you eat at Golden Corral you might see a lot of Fatties, but I don't see this area as being particularly portly.
Your statement seems odd. I've visited 35+ other states, and several cities in most of those states, and lived in a few of them. I have no idea how to classify someone as 7-13 pounds heavier than someone else, much less how to categorize that number as "overweight" compared to the average and unless you're a specialist in this area, I have a hard time believing this statement or taking it seriously. I really don't know what the "average person" in "other cities" weighs unless there is a statistic out there somewhere generalizing everyone in certain metropolitan areas.
That said, when spending time anywhere (except perhaps my own bathroom scale), I don't tend to focus on how much people seem to weigh. Just me, I guess. There is a little more to pay attention to in life than that.

Actually, I am a specialist in this area. And, I have visited 37+ cities, and have lived in several major cities on both coasts.
The average person in this region is ten pounds overweight, give or take a few pounds (hence, the seven to thirteen-pound range.) However, the average person here is not average, and therefore is likely closer to thirteen pounds over the norm.
I did not intend to sound rude; rather, I was simply wondering if anyone had an explanation for this phenomenon.
