Sorry I have so many questions about bugs but I just noticed some really large reddish colored bees landing on a tree in my yard.

If you ever have a question about bugs, bees, insects, or spiders try looking at this really cool sight. If they don't know what it is, they will research it for you. Anyway they are on vacation but on this page is all kinds of bees, I was amazed at the wide variety of bees. RIght down to an assassin bug that kills bees WEIRD! Are you sure they are bees? I am thinking that the insects you see are not bees but Japanese Beetles. They are common in the area and tend to swarm around a tree when feeding on it. I’m skeptical though because I usually don’t see them until deep in the summer.

I too was thinking about japanese beetles which suck! They have bug bags you can buy most places and the will fly in there and die.

Thanks everyone. I did a little research and I think I found the culprit. It's a European Giant Hornet. Not aggressive unless you disturb their nest, so I'm not going to worry about them.

I'm not sure where the nest is but if I don't see it, I guess it's pretty well into the woods and I'm not going in there.
