Does anyone know the status of any of these Projects? It looks like one phase of the Park is almost complete(Playground/Picnic Area and trails) and I read some where before that the contract for the Greenway project was out for bid a while ago. The City and the County do a horrible job of keeping anyone informed. I think they are great projects, but when will they be complete. Does anyone have the inside scope?

Great question! I emailed the city for an update on the status of the Neuse Greenway project back in April 2008. Here is what they replied back

April 2008
"The project is behind schedule. Getting the necessary permits approved has takenlonger than anticipated. We plan to begin the construction in late summer and complete construction approximately 18 months later."

I do not know if they have actuall begun construction on the greenway. I just emailed them again asking for another update. I understand that these things take time and there can be unavoidable delays, but I agree with you that the are not doing a good job of keeping the public informed. At the very least they could put a blurb up on their website with the status. Instead you have to hunt down the info. I'll let you know if I hear anything.

I wrote to the city about the timeline on the Upper Neuse River Greenway, and someone responded that the contract was awarded to Narron Contracting. The Notice to Proceed will be issued by next week. And it should be complete in 14 months after NTP.

Let me know if you hear or see anything else.

Thanks

This was posted on the Bedford website on Jan 19th.

The Upper Neuse Greenway projected has been awarded by the City and construction will begin in the next few days.

The beginning signs of construction will be a construction trailer in the Progess Energy Right of Way (ROW) at the end of Bedfordtown and some required construction signs on our roads. The entire project will take a year. so please be aware of some increase in vehicle traffic and construction workers in and around the community near the project. Most of the actual construction will be along the Neuse River behind Bedford but we will see access point construction at the end of Bedfordtown Rd and on Falls River Avenue North of Grand Journey.

The City will build parking in the Progress Energy Right of Way space for 5-7 cars at both access points in Bedford. This should be plenty of space and keep cars off the streets. The City and the Board will monitor the parking situation after the project is complete.
